I’m J. Jay, a composer based in Greenville, SC, with a background in music composition and jazz piano from Furman University. Music has been my lifelong passion, and I’ve had the privilege of crafting pieces for video games, concert halls, and live performances. Over the years, my works have been performed by groups like the Appalachian Wind Symphony, the Furman Symphony Orchestra, and various ensembles and churches. I’ve also written for original projects, including musicals and jazz collaborations.
Teaching is one of my greatest joys, and I’m excited to be accepting new students again! I’ve worked with over 400 students, helping them grow in composition, arranging, orchestration, and piano, especially in the art of improvisation across various styles. My lessons are highly flexible and student-focused, designed to meet your unique needs and goals. Whether you want help analyzing your music, honing your skills, or exploring new topics, I’m here to guide you on your musical journey. I teach via Zoom, offering payment options and packages to fit your schedule and budget. Let’s create something amazing together!
